What Does ‘Vintage Wedding Rings’ Really Mean?

Choosing a wedding band is a big decision. It is something which you will wear every day, will do the chores wearing and will be your most valued piece of jewelry, so it is important to get it right. Although the choice of new wedding bands is vast, many people are now looking to a smaller market, the vintage wedding rings are back in fashion.

What Is A Vintage Wedding Ring?

Vintage is a word which one hears and is bandied around by designers, but actually it just means that it is over fifty years old. So the next time you hear that a designer ‘was inspired by a vintage design’ it simply means that they looked to the previous generations for their ideas.

There are some eras which are more popular than others when it comes to choosing vintage wedding rings. Below are the three most popular at the moment.

Victorian Vintage Wedding Rings

These are rings made after 1835 and right up until 1900. Despite the length of this era, these vintage wedding rings are pretty hard to find and will be fairly expensive. They are usually rose or yellow gold and they tend to be very intricate with the traditional white diamonds.

Edwardian Vintage Wedding Rings

This is a much shorter era, following on from the Victorian times, but only lasting two decades. The intricacy of the Victorians continues, however, there was a movement towards rose diamonds and sapphires during this time. This was also the time when platinum rings became popular. So despite the shortness of this era, the Edwardian vintage rings are significantly different to the Victorian ones.

Art Deco Vintage Wedding Rings

This style started in Paris and reached its peak in the 1920s however it continued to grow in the United States through the 1930s. The style was about being different, it was an important time of change, and for this reason it will always be appealing. The Art Deco vintage rings still look very modern and contemporary and continue to inspire designers today.

Whichever of the vintage wedding rings you choose you can be sure that they will be striking and special. These rings are a great investment as they can be passed down the generations and become a part of the family history.
