Male Wedding Rings

Male Wedding Rings – Shouldn’t This Be A Really Simple Decision?

As if there wasn’t enough to organise with a wedding, there is the hurdle of the grooms ring. Many men will never have worn a ring before their wedding day so it all seems a little alien to them. Fortunately the male wedding rings market is exploded with new designs and ideas for men.

There are several things to consider before parting with any money!

Firstly, the color of the ring is important. Traditionally the men wore simple yellow gold bands. These are still readily available, but they are often not the one a man will choose. Often brides like the idea that their husbands ring will be made of the same metal as their ring. The difficulty with this is that many brides will have been deciding on the sort of ring they want since they were teenagers; so they have a fairly good idea. To impose this on their groom is not really fair.

Most men will choose either a traditional plain band or an engraved one. Some of the male wedding rings which have become very popular are those with Celtic symbols engraved into the band. These seem to appeal to the men as they are usually symbols of strength. A very popular one is the Celtic warrior ring. This design is taken from the Ardagh chalice and has become a symbol of strength and loyalty.

There are many other Celtic designs such as the knots, twists and trinity which are often found engraved into male wedding rings.

Apart for the Celtic rings, there is also a trend towards having expressions of love engraved around the ring. For those who are less comfortable with this they can always be engraved on the inside.

If the groom decides that the plain band is the way forward; there are still more decisions to make. The original wedding bands were flat on both the inside and outside. These are obviously still to be found, but there are two other designs that accompany them in the display cabinet. There is the comfort ring; this is exactly what it says. It is a ring designed to be of maximum comfort. These rings have no flat edges. They are slightly rounded on the top and on the inside and the edges are slightly rounded as well. The comfort band is very easy to put on and off, and can be worn right at the joint of the finger to the hand and will not dig in.

The final and probably the least popular choice for male wedding rings is the round band. This is a bit like a curtain ring, totally round and slides on. These are a fairly cheap option, but have two primary downfalls. When lifting almost any weight they can dig in. Also, there is no room to engrave even the date of the wedding. These are fine and will do the job, but certainly not great.

So all in, when choosing between the various male wedding rings on the market there are two areas to think about; how elaborate do you want it and how comfortable do you want it? Simple really!
